I was moved by this when I first read it, and equally as moved when I received it in today's mail, with the Valentine for Christian.

Beautiful sentiments, wonderful optimism. Thank you, Mary Ann, and lots of love, support, and big hugs to you on Valentine's Day.

Please tell me what I can do to get involved. Barbaro's petition is past expiration and I cannot sign it. I cannot find anything on anymore petitions. We need to get together like UK did and stand up for these amazing creatures!!!

Thank you for your comments - I couldn't agree more. The media doesn't do a very good job of exposing the tragedy of thoroughbred horse racing; the fact that they are drugged, pushed to their limits, raced too young and then retired to slaughter. I think anyone with a heart will realize that this has got to stop. The question is where to start??

What a great post! You are so brave Mary Ann. I too have felt passionately about Obama since the beginning, but I am one one those secretive voters. I usually keep my opinions to myself out of fear of being challenged by some hot-headed conservative. I get e-mails almost daily from the Obama campaign and while sending in money is no problem, I can never respond to the ones asking me to actively get involved. My shyness always wins out! I'm proud of you and I really admire your efforts.

See you(and your teeth) soon-

Mary Ann,

Did you ever get tumbled by a wave in ocean as a child? You feel just like overalls tumbling in a washing machine. You need balance BECAUSE it feels so great. Usually we are somewhere in between balance and unbalance.

I am off balance about driving now...

LOVE, Bettie

[...] ruthpennebaker wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptLast week there was so much discord and tragedy in the news that I felt I needed to plant my feet a little more firmly on the ground to balance myself. The more off kilter the world seemed, the more I felt I was losing hope. I don’t need the world to be rosy all the time, certainly, but there is something very elemental about emotional survival and how it affects mood, productivity and health. My defining moment was in trying to rise above the fighting between Presidential candidates that felt childish and ego-filled, not feeling affected by Wall Street’s quivers, wondering how the bloodshed in Kenya could be quelled, and taking in the tragic and mysterious death of talented actor Heath Ledger. How do I stabilize myself so I won’t lose motivation or feel like quitting when things get bad? (The answer is the same whether my imbalance is caused by something external - world events - or from feelings about […] [...]
